Joseph Perkins BMus(Hons) M.A. is a London based jazz/session guitarist, multi-instrumentalist, composer, lecturer and postgraduate from City University of London, with performance tuition from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. He has studied guitar with Scott Henderson (Tribal Tech), Mike Stern (Miles Davis), Wayne Krantz (Steely Dan) and Karl Sanders (Nile). He is currently a visiting lecturer at City University of London.
Joe has performed at Montreal Jazz Festival, BAFTA, Ronnie Scott’s (residency), Vortex Jazz Club, The Jazz CafĂ© (supporting Terence Blanchard), BBC Radio, JazzFM, House of Lords (for The Royal College of Music), The Savoy and for members of the Royal Family. Session credits include, Robohands, The X Factor winner, James Arthur, Bibi Bourelly and playing the music of Django Reinhardt in Jessica Swale’s film, Summerland. He teaches Jazz improvisation at City University of London and folk guitar workshops at Cecil Sharp House and with artists such as Gordon Giltrap. He currently performs with virtuoso violinist and pianist, Benet McLean.
Joe is active in the heavy metal and experimental underground. He currently records and performs with projects including Kiki Mora, Legislate Mortality, Strange Orc, Ultimate Laceration and Feral Verge. His work in this sphere has seen releases on labels such as Crypt of the Wizard, Sokol Keep and Eggy Tapes, as well as tours across the UK and Europe.
Joe is a widely experienced private music tutor (Hampstead Garden Suburb) and has previous experience in the state sector as a peripatetic and classroom teacher. He has also worked with the ABRSM as a teacher/presenter and at Brains & Hunch – Music For Moving Image.
