Bio

Joseph Perkins BMus(Hons) M.A. is a London based jazz/session guitarist, multi-instrumentalist, composer, lecturer and postgraduate from City University of London, with performance tuition from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. He has studied guitar with Scott Henderson (Tribal Tech), Mike Stern (Miles Davis), Wayne Krantz (Steely Dan) and Karl Sanders (Nile). He is currently a visiting lecturer at City University of London.

Joe has performed at BAFTA, Ronnie Scott’s (residency), Vortex Jazz Club, The Jazz CafĂ© (supporting Terence Blanchard), BBC Radio, JazzFM, House of Lords, The Savoy and for members of the Royal Family. Session credits include, Robohands, The X Factor winner, James Arthur, Bibi Bourelly, Kima Otung, and playing the music of Django Reinhardt in Jessica Swale’s film, Summerland. He has also worked as a guest lecturer, teaching Jazz improvisation at City University of London and folk guitar workshops at Cecil Sharp House and with artists such as Gordon Giltrap. He has performed with virtuoso violinist and pianist, Benet McLean.

Joe is a widely experienced private music tutor (St. John’s Wood) and has previous experience in the state sector as a peripatetic and classroom teacher. He has also worked with the ABRSM as a teacher/presenter and at Brains & Hunch – Music For Moving Image.
